It seems in the late 90s, a similar scenario played out on the final day of
the USML season. Was it Kerber and Klein?

Rick: You're close.

In 1991, BJ Surhoff stole an entirely meaningless base in an entirely
meaningless game on the last day of the season, and that was the difference for the
Klein Nine--in a tie-breaker--BY A SINGLE FREAKIN' STOLEN BASE IN THE COURSE
OF THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' SEASON.

But wait, it gets even better. In '98, the Nukes led the legendary Rips
going into the last day of the season. In the last game of the last day, the
Texas Rangers sent out their closer in a non-save situation, just to get in a
little work to set him up for the playoffs. Predictably enough, he gave up a
few hit and walks. As a result, the Rips, who would have lost a tie-breaker,
passed the Nukes in the ratio category, and took the title by a SINGLE
FREAKIN' HIT OR WALK OVER THE COURSE OF THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' SEASON.

In short, I've had the pleasure of being on the losing end of the two
tightest races in league history, and pretty much the tightest races that are
possible in Roto.

But I'm not bitter.

Mark
