Andy gets $2 FAAB. I think the upshot of this is that, as a Cubs fan, Andy really loses twice. By the way, here's the item I saw.
The Cubs are close to acquiring Phil Nevin from the Rangers, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.
The Rangers will surely be responsible for most of Nevin's $10 million salary. Still, we don't think this is going to be much of a boost for the Cubs. Nevin is working on posting a sub-700 OPS against right-handers for for the fourth time in five years. He will help out versus left-handers, but that's about it. If the Cubs make him a full-time player until Derrek Lee comes back, they'll be disappointed. May. 31 - 4:38 pm et

Regarding retention, you don't get a retention roster until 2009. The rest of the league gets to keep nine.

Wow--I really do have to read that thing someday...we still can retain 20 guys, right? So when the Cubs acquire Phil Nevin from the Rangers via trade later today (hey, check out the Trib's website, I ain't makin' this up) and Andy waives him, how much does he get in FAAB?

No, he gets nothing at all. Clemens was not traded.

He only get $2 for the FAAB. See the proviso to the second sentence of Section
14.6 of our constitution.

ITEM: Roger Clemens signs with Astros.
ANALYSIS: "Now it can be revealed," explained USML analyst Jeffrey Winick.
"Much like Tricky Dick Nixon's papers, Mark Blocker often refuses to release his
trade notes until years after the season ends. This year, however, Mark Blocker
granted me some limited access to the inner workings of the Bombers' war room.
The strategy, since the rotation draft, was to dangle Clemens to the K-9 for
Jhonny Peralta and Covelli Crisp. Blocker knew along that he could pull off tha
blockbuster with the Angries, that Klein would cry several days about it, but
come back pleading for Clemens--if he joined the Yankees, rangers or Bosox. How
could Andy not, with a team built around rag arms like Burnett, Bonser and Chen,
and non-performers like Craig Hansen and Eric Bedard.
"Alas, Blocker's strategy went awry...he waited a tick too long, and now all he
has is the potential for another $15 in FAAB action. Nice try, though, and for
that I applaud him. Blocker sometimes pays heed to my advice, although in this
instance he dallied to long at the fair." _______________________________________________
