    PHOENIX, Ariz. ? White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen announced after
Saturday's 8-3 loss to the A's that Matt Thornton will handle the
majority of the closer duties.

LOSERS: Bombers--now that Berliners have their closer, Bombers won't
be able to pry Mike Trout away from them in dump deal for Pabelbon;
Angry Young Men--with Berliners amassing some amount of saves, Angries
will be picking up the rear in save points. Both teams trending in a
DOWNWARD SPIRAL.

WINNERS: Riptorns.  Thrusting Matt Thornton into closer role for which
he is ill-suited gives Sale and Santos time to hone their craft
outside the spotlight. They'll be plenty ready to claim closer job
when Thornton falters by mid-season if not sooner. Trending UPWARD.
