[USML Announce] Genius, Thy Name is Lord Jeffrey Winick: A Note From The Everett Files

Now that the dust has settled, the tornados have blown by, and the earth has
stopped shaking, it's time to take a breather and reflect upon the Genius of
Jeffrey Winick:

   1. He won't miss his Wieters: Jeffrey always liked catchers who
actually hit (i.e., Kelly Shoppach), so it's no surprise he dedicated his
off- and in-season strategy to replacing Matt Wieters. He found more than a
replacement. Santana is Wieters times three, easily, plus he's locked in at
a modest $11 salary through 2013. Lord Jeffrey has one concern, and that
is Santana's position eligibility in 2013, but that's a long way off.
It's a shame, however, that this deal knocks Pena to the bench. He'll be
missed.

   2. He acquired the red-hot Eric Hosmer. Normally Lord Jeffrey would be
concerned that this bearded behemoth has drawn one walk and struck out ten
times over the last ten games. Small matter: he was the top prospect
available in a trade this season, and Jeffrey landed him. That's what
counts. Paired with Justin Smoak, the Berliners have a formidable duo of
first basemen for the foreseeable future.

   3. Lord Jeffrey has more bait to trade: Carl Crawford may be good at
some point this season, and Edwin Encarnacion may yet hit a home run; if and
when those occur, they will be converted to keepers, keepers that will
catapult the Berliners back into contention in 2012.

And what of the Red Hots? Well, the acquisition of both Lester and Verlander
shores up badly needed pitching points. But how much production can they
expect from the likes of Jeter, Borbon, Davis, Damon, Gordon, Rios, and
Willingham going forward? More trades will be in order after June 1.

And that, my friends, is The Truth.
