PHILADELPHIA -- The Rays made a half-dozen roster movers prior to Friday's
series opener against the Phillies.

Tampa Bay claimed infielder/pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad off waivers from the
Brewers, activated infielder Jeff Keppinger from the disabled list and
recalled pitcher Brandon Gomes from Triple-A Durham.

To make room for the trio on the 25-man roster, outfielder Rich Thompson
was optioned to Durham, infielder Drew Sutton was designated for assignment
and outfielder Matt Joyce, who has been bothered by tightness in his back,
was placed on the 15-day DL.

*Nukes. Loss of team's most productive outfielder means season doomed
unless team *GOES ON RED ALERT.
