Please note that the article below went to print before the Detroit Tigers announced that Jose Valverde (Nukes-Y1/10) will be installed immediately as the team's closer for now and forever. The News Of The Day regrets any confusion that its Bruce Rondon article may have caused.

ITEM
DETROIT -- The Tigers' closer of the future didn't need long to become the relief help of the present. Bruce Rondon, whose triple-digit fastball made him a candidate to head up the bullpen out of Spring Training, earned his first call to the big leagues on Tuesday to replace the injured Octavio Dotel.
The Tigers placed Dotel on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. They recalled Rondon from Triple-A Toledo, where his season-opening stint as the Mud Hens' closer featured dominant numbers from the right-hander who skyrocketed through the Tigers' farm system last year.
WINNER
Klein 9. Team's faith and $8 investment in young flamethrower about to pay huge dividends as K-9 PREPARE TO LAUNCH OFFENSIVE.
LOSER
Lake Michigan Calamari. Benoit's turn in closer spotlight was brief and uninspired as team MUST DUCK AND TAKE COVER.
