DETROIT -- The Detroit

some help for their shaky bullpen Monday, acquiring reliever Jose
Veras <http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/28498/jose-veras> from the Houston
Astros <http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/hou/houston-astros> for minor
league outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named.

Veras is 0-4 with a 2.93 ERA and 19 saves this season, and the 32-year-old
right-hander has struck out 44 in 43 innings with only 14 walks.


*LOSER*

Berliners. With Red Hots using ex-Riptorn beano Nick Franklin to nab
Cabrera and other keepers and a non-strike throwing minor leaguer to nab
keeper Jhonny Peralta, Berliners have lost all hope in clinging to first,
and  *now must worry about falling behind tortured and vengeful Riptorns.*

Rips. With Veras closing for a team that actually wins games, Rips will
