[USML Announce] Story from the League Historian ... and Potentially Historic Offer

Andy,

That would have been a great retort, but for the fact that Ben McDonald was a righty.

I'm looking up historical data on Bautista. I'll be back to you shortly.

That is (most definitely, not) all.

Jeff

Hard throwing lefty college phenom ... I'm hearing comparisons to Ben McDonald ...

As for those HQ projections, I'd be interested in digging up what they said about Bautista in 2010. And even if they're in the ballpark with Iglesias this year, that's at least $7 in undervalue!

That is all.

Iglesias with Bautista like upside? I don’t think so. For that you’d have to be talking about a guy like Xander Bogaerts.

Unless or until we add a category for defensive stats, Jose Iglesias will never be more than an $8 player. And, wouldn’t you know, that is exactly what BaseballHQ thinks he’ll be worth:

Now, if you’re looking for real upside potential, take a look at the hard throwing lefty that the White Sox just called up. The one that draws regular comparisons to a young David Price. If you’re interested in someone to build your team around, you know where to find me.

Also, I’m looking to exchange a corner infielder (Logan Morrison, Nick Swisher or David Freese) for an outfielder with roughly equivalent value.

Once upon a time, in 2010, the K9 made a late-auction $1 purchase. The player purchased was in his late 20s and playing for his fourth team. His career BA was around .230. He had never hit more than 15 HR in a season. His name was Jose Bautista.

The K9 kept Bautista on the bench for the first few weeks of the season, even though he started hot. After about a month, the K9 activated him. He kept slugging HRs. Finally, the K9 decided to "sell high." In need of wins and strikeouts, the K9 sent Bautista and his buck salary to Jim Barrett's Calamari in exchange for the immortal Javier Vazquez. Bautista never looked back, finishing with 54 HR that year, and Mr. Barrett enjoyed his contract (and his massive productivity) for three more years. Vazquez gave the K9 a 6.00 ERA and a lot of heartburn.

Well ... once again this year, the K9 made a late-auction $1 purchase. The player purchased in his mid-20s and playing for his second team. He missed all of last year with an injury and, though he has a nice career BA, he has never displayed a lot of power or speed. That is -- until now. Jose Iglesias is on the K9 bench, where he has opened the season hitting .484 with 4 steals, 10 RBI, and 12 runs.

Having invested $83 in starting middle infielders, the K9 is officially putting another one-dollar Jose on the trading block. The asking price is a really good catcher or a very solid starting pitcher. I need the to cover for injury (Jaso) and incompetence (Avila). I need the latter because I stupidly gave Cy Young candidate Trevor Bauer to the Hoosier Daddies before the season started.

This is potentially historic offer. Act now.

Sincerely,
