[USML Announce] Baseball news - radio clip

I really don’t have any issue with the White Sox. It’s their fans with whom I have a problem. ;-)

BTW, like Blocker, I'm also largely neutral in these matters. My parents were Cubs fans, and my time in Chicago has been spent on the north side, so it was pretty natural for me to be a Cubs fan. However, I'm not from Chicago and I don't buy into the whole Cubs/Sox north/south rivalry thing. My preference would be for both teams to be big winners and meet each other in a crosstown World Series.

Regarding my comment on the neighborhoods, I meant that as a purely objective comment on the relative marketability of the teams. Thousands of people go to the Lakeview/Wrigleyville area every day for its bars, restaurants, retail, the lake shore, etc--even outside baseball season. By contrast, almost anybody within a mile of the Cell either lives in the area or is going to a Sox game. That's a big marketing advantage for the Cubs, and it's one the Sox can't duplicate, short of moving to a new location. So we essentially have a big market team (Cubs) and a small market team (Sox) in the same city. (In that context, I laughed my ass off back when Sam Zell suggested that he might try to sell the Cubs franchise without Wrigley Field. Sure, Sam, you go try that and see what the franchise is worth in Arlington Heights or someplace like that.)

And I like to jerk people's chains--but I think you all figured that out already.

Mark

Doug, just to be clear, I am a dual citizen, rooting for both teams. I just find it remarkable that no talk radio is even willing to talk about the White Sox. Its weird.

Yes, one team has won a World Series in the last 10 or so years and it ain't the one you're rooting for brother

I know you guys won't believe this, but I heard a local sports talk radio show today in which they were actually discussing the White Sox and their off-season moves. I thought this was a one-team town like Oakland?
