[USML Announce] Updated Lubeasts retention roster

Fog meet smoke. Or is it the other way around?

Let’s take a look at the Nukes’ so-called, underdog roster.

Kirby, Eflin and Bello for a total of $21. With Cole down for the count, Kirby is on the short list of top arms in the AL and Eflin and Bello aren’t too far behind. Closer is Jhoan Duran – he of the 100 mph fastball and the projected 37 saves plus half holds. Oh, and he’s only $13.

But it gets better. Yainer Diaz - $1. Jose Siri - $1. And then the roster gets more expensive. Maikel Garcia is double that price at $2. Steven Kwan and Yandy Diaz are each retained at the 5x the price. And Kyle Manzardo and Ricky Tiedemann are in reserve just waiting to add value at a grand total of zero auction dollars each.

Nothing short of complete and utter incompetence would be required for this team to fail. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t put that past Mr. K, but underdog, my ass.

Here’s the thing – as good as Kirby, Eflin and Bello are, Kerbs needs another arm or two to lock things up. That’s where we – the protectors of the Damon, come in. I’m no longer going hot and heavy on Cole. I’ll leave that to someone who is less risk averse than I. But I promise to bid up Burnes, Gausman, Bassitt, Ober and Ryan. I just need a little help when my resolve weakens. I implore you – join the cause!

Oh, and for those who are keeping track (and I mean you - Frank, Mark B and Buddha) – I don’t regard any of you (well…maybe Frank) as worthy members of the loyal order of the protectors of the Damon (LOOPED), but consider your self-interest. If Kerber screws this up, one of you is sure to hoist the Damon at season’s end.

That is all…for now.

Meant to respond to Winick's "prognostications" but hadn't gotten to it.

Nice job, Jeffrey. Bear Bryant would bow down before you as a master of the smoke screen. You definitely come into the draft room as the favorite. Just don't use whatever sources you used to pick your pitchers last year and you'll be fine. Now let's see that follow-up analysis. But I'm totally in on Cole--all the way to $50.

Nothing has changed with the Berliners but wanted to get my roster out there. Standard caveats apply, but this should be the Berliners circa 2024. Just consolidating the forces for the beginning of a three-peat starting in 2025. 2024 belongs to the Nukes unless he screws it up.

Josh Naylor, 1B, Cle, $10 FA

Anthony Volpe, SS, NYY, $10 Y2

Bobby Witt, MI, KC, $25, FA26

Julio Rodriguez, OF, Sea, $20, FA26

Josh Jung, 3B, Tex, $10, Y2

Clay Holmes, CL, NYY, $5, FA

Beans

Brooks Lee, SS, Min, $5

Jackson Holliday, SS, Bal, $10

Marcelo Mayer, SS, Bos, $5

Coby Mayo, 3B, Bal, $5

Max Clark, OF, Det, $5

Evan Carter, OF, Tex, $10

Very curious to see who the Bombers keep. Now that Kerber has disclosed, I presume Mark B. will replace him as the last team to disclose his roster. Given all the angst he has expressed about his most recent trades, I assume he’ll be cutting Pena, but Andy and I are both eager to find out.

And with respect to undervalue, I suggest that Frank update the data on his version of Rotolab. When he does so, he will find that he and Kerber have the most undervalue, followed by Mr. B. Can’t forget that you have to subtract $20 from my undervalue to account for Franco and that I’m extending the two best players in the American League for two years each.

Some prognostications:

  1. Gerrit Cole will be purchased by Kerber. He will cost at least $42 because I will be starting the bidding at $41.
  2. Bo Bichette will be purchased by Frank. He will cost at least $35 because I will be bidding him up to at least $34.
  3. At least two out of Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober will be purchased by John. He’ll spend at least $45 for two of them and no less than $65 if he wants all three.
  4. Mark B. will add to the apropos nature of his team name by purchase one or both of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. But he’ll have to pay for them as the bidding on each will start at $40.
  5. Gunnar Henderson is a guy that Kerber wants but won’t get. He’ll be a member of the Angry Young Men who will pay whatever it takes.
  6. The Klein Nine will leave the draft without a starting pitcher who costs more than $10.
  7. Esteury Ruiz will be a member of the Calamari once the bidding stops. But those stolen bases aren’t going to come cheap.

More (spookily accurate) predictions coming once additional rosters are submitted and the tea leaves settle in the glass.

That is all (for now).

Good morning all,

Great to see the pre-draft trade market heating up!

Here is the revised Lubeasts roster. It doesn’t have the RotoLab profit levels of the Berliners or Nukes, but it will do:

Keepers:

Luis Castillo, P, SEA Y2 $29

Tarik Skubal, P, DET, Y2 $5

Tanner Bibee, P, CLE Y2 $10

Dean Kremer, P, BAL Y2 $1

Pete Fairbanks, P, TB FA $5

Triston Casas, 1B, BOS Y2 $2

Royce Lewis, 3B, MIN Y2. $10

Luis Robert, OF, CWS FA $15

Riley Greene, OF, DET FA $10

Beans:

Ceddanne Rafaela, BOS $10

Heston Kjerstad, BAL $5

Justin Foscue, TEX $2

That will leave the Beasts with $163 for 14 players on draft day ($173 less the Manoah penalty).

Best,

Frank
