Following up on the request below.

No one seems to object, and the constitution seems 100% clear to me.

In addition, I'd note that my reading of the rules is consistent with the MLB waivers work (claimed players retain their existing contracts), and it's also inconsistent with the way the website works (i.e., waived players don't show up in the free agent bidding pool unless and until they clear waivers). Finally, it's consistent with our reason for cutting off the contracts of free agents purchased after September 1, which was simply to limit prospecting after MLB rosters expanded but had no connection to retention of players already priced via the draft.

Article VIII, Section 5 of the Constitution provides that "free agents" acquired after September 1 are not eligible for retention. The provision applies only to "free agents."

The salary of a free agent is his acquisition price. Except as set forth in the next sentence, the contract status of a free agent acquired on or before the last weekly transaction deadline before September 1 is that of a first-year player. The contract status of a free agent who, during the course of the season, was in the final year of his contract, is that of a player in the final year of his contract. The contract status of a free agent acquired after the last weekly transaction deadline before September 1 is that of a player in the final year of his contract.

The salary and contract status of a player acquired through waivers remains whatever it was when the player was waived. Article VIII, Section 4 of the Constitution provides:
