Thanks Rick and Andy.
Hmmm ... you can interpret the note as "thoughts" on Chapman.
Happy New Year to all!

Rick is right.  We went through an era where closers were *very* high-priced.  I once paid $34 for the immortal Joe Grahe of the Angels!  I'm not sure the highest ever -- but wouldn't be surprised in Mariano Rivera or someone like that hit $40 at some point.
Frank ... can we interpret your note as a bid on Chapman?!

It had to be about 10 years ago - there was a period from the late 90s through about 5 years ago that closers were fetching the highest or near highest salaries of any players.  It would be interesting to see how the teams that were paying seemingly outrageous sums for closers were finishing in the standings.  Sounds like a job for Rich or Andy!   Rick

Happy Holidays!

What is the highest salary on record in the USML for a closer?

Just curious. That is all.
